Can you tell us where the idea of the integrated resort came from?
“Several years ago I was looking at the direction Camotes Island was headed and what it would need and we could build and drew the project on a piece of paper”.
Why an integrated resort?
“Integration and the sharing of resources are critical to sustainability. I truly believe in that and so we looked at what others were doing with integrated resorts and came up with our own community concept”.
There are many developers how are you different?
The first thing is we are not trying to build thousands of units. We only have 100 so each buyer we will know personally and care about personally. I will make sure the buyer experience and the Monte Cristo Resort experience are second to known.
The other thing is how we build meaning you are getting a lot more value for your money and we are not cutting corners or adding on ridiculous fees that some developers do.
We also are the first developer I know of in the Philippines using the Solarcrete insulated wall system which is structurally much better then block walls and saves about 30% on energy costs which is a big deal”.
What makes Camotes a paradise in your opinion?
Everyone has a vision of their own paradise and Camotes is special. It is one of the cleanest and safest places in the country. It has a laidback lifestyle and people who come here see that and appreciate its natural beauty. It also now is just getting enough infrastructure and amenities to make it a true retirement destination”.
Is Camotes going to be the Boracay of Cebu?
“No. Camotes is much larger then Boracay so you can have development on San Fran and Poro without really hurting the overall feel of the island or impacting people in a negative way. I do think tourism numbers will triple in the next 3 to 4 years but again it is not going to be a Boracay and I doubt anyone wants that. It actually is more like Hainan Island in China”.
On Camotes you now have Santiago Bay and Mangoglong on San Fran as the two major resort areas you are basically creating a third on Poro.
“That’s correct. Santiago Bay is a great local beach. Mangodlong is (laughs)…have you tried to drive down the dirt road to it lately? They both serve a certain niche and we believe ours will do much better for the simple fact we have more to offer with the casino, spa and other things and will have outstanding customer service which they do not”.
What can you tell us about the condos?
“They are all single story which is not easy to find for oceanfront or ocean view property. I think that makes a big difference and each has its own outdoor patio so you can barbeque and enjoy the ocean breezes. The units themselves are two bedrooms with nice interiors we created with our architect and interior design team. The community itself is going to be a great place to live and play”.
If someone is interested what should they do?
“Get in touch with us. I can share with them any information they need and answer all their questions and we can give them a tour. We have introduced a financing plan that is no interest for up to 3 years because quite frankly it’s tough out there and we want to be able to help people buy their home or an escape to paradise”.
